Cooperation to Promote Global Expansion of K-Culture Content
Naver announced on July 24 that it has signed a "Comprehensive Memorandum of Understanding for Business Partnership in the Field of AI" with the Korean Broadcasting System (KBS) to advance artificial intelligence (AI) technology and strengthen competitiveness.
On the 24th, at Naver 1784 in Seongnam, Gyeonggi Province, Suyeon Choi, CEO of Naver (left), and Jangbeom Park, President of KBS, are posing for a commemorative photo after signing a comprehensive memorandum of understanding for collaboration in the AI field.
Naver and KBS will cooperate to achieve their shared goal of enhancing national AI competitiveness. Based on this partnership, they will also work to promote the global expansion of K-culture content. Previously, KBS declared this year as the inaugural year of AI broadcasting during its 52nd anniversary ceremony in March.
Going forward, Naver will provide AI technology solutions, while KBS will supply various training content, continuing discussions on the development of advanced media technology, content, and services based on AI. They are expected to jointly develop models applicable to the content sector, thereby contributing to the protection of AI technology sovereignty and the activation of the ecosystem.
Naver is advancing its proprietary large language model (LLM), HyperCLOVA X, to enable AI to understand not only text but also visual and audio information. By enhancing reasoning and cognitive abilities, the company is also developing HyperCLOVA X as a core technology for AI agent services. According to Naver, the open-source HyperCLOVA X model has been downloaded more than 1 million times both domestically and internationally within just three months.
Naver continues to introduce AI tools that help improve productivity in the media industry. A representative example is the video analysis service "MAIU" (Media AI Understanding). This service automatically analyzes various information in videos?such as people, actions, backgrounds, and audio?using AI to generate metadata, enabling users to quickly find desired scenes through text searches. This effectively reduces editing time for video creators.
A Naver representative stated, "We plan to seek cooperation with new partners for reliable data training and diversity," adding, "We will create new value in line with the global AI trend of 'media-AI ecosystem' collaboration, and move forward in a direction that respects copyright holders' rights and promotes mutual growth."
