At approximately 9:58 a.m. on July 24, nitrogen gas leaked from a high-pressure gas storage facility near the parking lot of Incheon National University’s Songdo Campus in Yeonsu-gu, Incheon.
As a result of this incident, A, the 54-year-old facility manager who was at the gas storage site, was exposed to nitrogen gas and lost consciousness. He was transported to the hospital by the 119 emergency team and is currently receiving treatment.
Upon receiving a 119 emergency call reporting that “a person had collapsed at a high-pressure gas facility,” the fire authorities dispatched 14 vehicles and 31 personnel, including firefighters, to the scene. Safety measures, including shutting off the gas valve, were completed 28 minutes after the report, at approximately 10:26 a.m.
The capacity of the high-pressure gas storage tank from which the nitrogen gas leaked was determined to be 6,800 liters.

The police and fire authorities plan to investigate the amount of gas leaked and the specific circumstances of the incident as soon as the personnel on site complete the gas discharge operations.
A fire department official stated, “Although safety measures at the scene have been completed, rescue workers and ambulances will remain on standby until the gas discharge operations are fully finished in case of any unforeseen situations.”
