Order Twice for a 10,000 Won Coupon: Public Delivery App Eases Coupon Criteria for Vacation Season

Consumer Coupon Criteria for Public Delivery Apps Eased for Summer Vacation and Holiday Season
Retroactive Application to Existing Orders

Starting July 25, the standards for receiving consumer coupons through public delivery apps will be eased. Until now, a 10,000 won coupon was given after three orders, but going forward, consumers will receive a 10,000 won coupon after just two orders. The restriction that limited coupon issuance to once per person per month will also be lifted.

The Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs announced on July 24 that it would relax the standards for public delivery app consumer coupons in line with the summer vacation season.

The government has been running the public delivery app consumer coupon program since June 10. Up to now, consumers who placed three orders of at least 20,000 won each were given a 10,000 won consumer coupon on a first-come, first-served basis, which could be used for their next order. As a result, the number of orders placed through public delivery apps increased by 22% compared to May and by 116% compared to the same month last year.

A Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs official explained, "Previously, consumers had to place three orders of at least 20,000 won to receive a coupon, and coupon use was limited to once per person per month, which restricted the benefits for consumers. Therefore, to enhance consumer convenience and fulfill the purpose of revitalizing public delivery apps, the ministry has decided to ease the order requirement to two orders and eliminate the limit on coupon issuance."

Orders placed before the change will also be eligible for the new, relaxed benefits. For example, consumers who have already placed two orders of at least 20,000 won each through public delivery apps will receive a 10,000 won consumer coupon on July 25.

This relaxation reflects the increased demand for food delivery at home during the summer vacation period. The ministry expects that more people will benefit from the relaxed standards. In addition, from July 21, consumer coupons for livelihood recovery, if received as local gift certificates, can also be used on public delivery apps.

Currently, twelve public delivery apps are participating in the consumer coupon program to promote public delivery app use. These include Ttaenggyeoyo, Meokgaebi, Baedal Teukgeup, Daegu-ro, and Baedal Moa, with eight developed by local governments and four as public-private partnerships.

The relaxed coupon issuance standards will apply to all participating apps. However, the ministry noted that the timing of implementation may vary by app depending on their system maintenance schedules.

Joo Woncheol, Director of Food Industry Policy at the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs, said, "We hope that easing the coupon standards will help reduce the burden on consumers due to increased dining-out demand during the summer vacation and also contribute to revitalizing the dining-out market. We also encourage restaurant operators to actively join public delivery apps, which have lower fees, and to cooperate in revitalizing the public delivery app market by offering menu or delivery fee discounts."
