Tied to Forklift and Mocked: Migrant Worker Abused at Naju Factory

Tied to Forklift and Mocked: Migrant Worker Abused at Naju Factory An incident occurred in Naju, Jeonnam, where a migrant worker was tied to cargo and lifted by a forklift. Provided by Jeonnam Migrant Workers Human Rights Network.

Allegations of human rights violations have emerged after a video was circulated showing a migrant worker in Naju, Jeonnam, tied to cargo and lifted by a forklift.

According to the Gwangju-Jeonnam Migrant Workers Network on July 23, a video was distributed online earlier this month showing a 31-year-old Sri Lankan national, referred to as A, who works at a brick manufacturing plant in Naju, being subjected to abusive treatment by fellow workers.

The 58-second video clearly shows A tied to bricks with white plastic used as tape. As A is unable to move, fellow workers film the scene with their mobile phones and laugh.

A man, presumed to be Korean, asks A, who is suspended in the air, "Did you do something wrong?" and presses further, saying, "You should say you did something wrong."

After repeated group bullying, A sought help from a labor organization.

It is reported that a total of about 20 workers, including A, are employed at this factory.

A representative from the Migrant Workers Network stated, "An outrageous incident has occurred at an industrial site," and added, "Human rights violations against migrant workers remain widespread."

The Migrant Workers Network plans to hold a press conference in front of Naju City Hall on July 24 to call for an investigation into human rights violations and will soon file a police report against the perpetrators identified in the video.
