Minimizing Fire Damage
24,000 Households, Accounting for 30% of All Homes, to Benefit
Gijang County in Busan (County Governor Jung Jongbok) is providing standalone alarm detectors and fire suppression patches to disaster-vulnerable residents in the area.
Following a series of recent fires that resulted in unfortunate casualties, the county has announced plans to enhance emergency response capabilities and minimize damage by installing basic fire safety facilities.
On July 23, the county stated that, in accordance with the 'Gijang County Support Ordinance for Disaster-Vulnerable Groups,' approximately 24,000 households?including recipients of basic livelihood security, lower-income groups, and single-person households with residents aged 65 or older?have been selected as beneficiaries. This accounts for about 30% of the total 80,000 households in the county.
A total of approximately 97,000 items will be distributed, including standalone alarm detectors and fire suppression patches. The standalone alarm detectors help facilitate early evacuation by sounding an alarm when smoke is detected, while the fire suppression patches assist in initial fire control by releasing a fire-extinguishing agent when the internal capsule bursts in the event of a fire in a power strip or electrical outlet.
Gijang County has signed a 'Basic Fire Safety Facility Installation Support Agreement' with the Gijang Fire Station and plans to complete installation in all eligible households by the end of this year. Notably, the installation work will be carried out through in-person visits by senior job program participants from the Gijang Senior Club, which is also expected to create jobs.
Governor Jung Jongbok stated, "This project is an effective and proactive measure to protect the lives and safety of our residents," adding, "With the belief that public safety is the highest form of welfare, we will establish a thorough safety net to ensure that no neighbors are left vulnerable to disasters."
