"Nothing Is More Important Than Your Health and Safety"... Hanwha Ocean CEO Kim Heechul Supports Field Workers During Heat Wave

Support Activities for Preventing Heat-Related Illnesses at the Geoje Plant Site
Handing Out Cool Drinks, Emphasizing "Health and Safety Come First"

On July 23, Hanwha Ocean CEO Kim Heechul visited the production site at the Geoje plant to inspect the rest areas for workers and carry out activities to support the prevention of heat-related illnesses among field workers during the summer heat wave.

Kim Heechul's on-site inspection was prompted by concerns that this summer's record-breaking heat wave could pose serious risks to the health and safety of workers.

He believed it was necessary for the company's top decision-maker to personally assess the situation on site and identify any additional areas for improvement.

On this day, Kim Heechul, accompanied by Vice President Lee Gilseop, who oversees manufacturing, as well as other executives responsible for production and safety, visited the rest area near Dock 1 to directly inspect the environment of the rest spaces. Walking around the site on foot to check each facility, Kim Heechul personally handed out individual cooling sleeves and cooling masks to workers he met, helping them lower their body temperature.

The number of individual cooling sleeves and cooling masks prepared by Kim Heechul to help lower workers' perceived temperature reached 25,000 each.

Kim Heechul also personally handed out cool drinks to workers at the site. He said, "Nothing is more important than your health and safety," and urged, "Please put safety first and have a cool and healthy summer."

While Kim Heechul was conducting his on-site activities, Hanwha Ocean also ran a campaign at the Geoje plant to prevent heat-related illnesses. New banners and notices promoting heat illness prevention were posted throughout the facility, once again reminding workers of the need to follow safety rules and raising awareness.

The banners featured messages such as "Even if the temperature rises, safety must not fall," emphasizing the importance of preventing heat-related illnesses in a way that resonates with workers.

This year, Hanwha Ocean introduced more systematic and proactive support measures to eliminate 'blind spots' during heat waves. Notable examples include mobile air-conditioned buses that move around the site to minimize heat damage, and the "mobile ice water" service that delivers cold bottled water to workers.

Additionally, the company implemented a new system that flexibly extends break times, doubling the morning and afternoon rest periods compared to before, depending on the perceived temperature, to create safer working conditions for field workers.

Hanwha Ocean also tripled the number of temporary rest areas equipped with air conditioners, water purifiers, and saline glucose compared to last year. Nutritious meals such as galbitang and samgyetang, fresh fruit punch, and beverages are provided two to three times a week. For four months from June to September, ice water is distributed during lunch, and all workers at the Geoje plant receive coupons for ice cream and drinks that can be used at the company store.

In addition to more than 200 spot coolers?large portable air conditioners?Hanwha Ocean also purchased and distributed over 1,220 items such as air jackets, cooling devices, sunshades, and parasols to further lower temperatures during work.
