Sancheong County Governor Lee Seunghwa: "Mobilizing All Available Resources to Minimize Inconvenience for Residents"

Briefing Session on Recovery Measures for Heavy Rain Damage Held

Sancheong County, South Gyeongsang Province, held the 'Second Briefing Session on Recovery Measures for Heavy Rain Damage' in the county office's main conference room on July 23.


During the briefing, various discussions took place regarding support for damage caused by the extreme rainfall from July 17 to 19, as well as efforts to help residents return to their daily lives as quickly as possible.


Previously, Sancheong County experienced an average of 632 mm of heavy rain during this period, resulting in unfortunate casualties for 16 people. Additionally, a total of 1,090 hectares of crops, 236 hectares of horticultural crops, farmland, and residences were flooded, leading to a total of 533 cases of property damage amounting to 141 billion KRW as of 11:00 a.m. on July 22.

In response, Sancheong County promptly began recovery efforts to help residents regain their daily routines. For emergency restoration, a total of 4,767 personnel and 787 pieces of equipment were mobilized to provide support.


In particular, the county has deployed all 600 public officials and assigned 252 excavators to focus all efforts on recovery. To support temporary evacuees, 29 shelters are being operated, providing relief kits, safety packages, daily necessities, and meals.


In addition, the county is operating disaster psychological counseling centers in cooperation with the Sancheong County Mental Health Welfare Center, the Gyeongnam Regional Mental Health Welfare Center, and the Gyeongnam Psychological Recovery Support Center (Korean Red Cross).


Furthermore, the county has allocated 4.5 billion KRW in reserve funds, 1 billion KRW in special adjustment grants, and 500 million KRW in special grants prior to settlement for the following purposes: emergency restoration of damaged roads and bridges, maintenance of water supply and drainage facilities, operation of shelters, and response to agricultural and livestock damage.


Lee Seunghwa, the county governor, stated, "Residents are experiencing difficulties due to this heavy rainfall," and added, "We will do our utmost to recover from the damage and help residents return to their daily lives."
