Kim Dongyeon: Up to 10 Million Won in Daily Recovery Support Funds for Heavy Rain Victims in Gapyeong and Other Areas

Gyeonggi Province has requested that the government declare Gapyeong County and Pocheon City as "special disaster zones" and will provide up to 10 million won in "daily recovery support funds" to local small business owners and affected farms.

Gyeonggi Province announced that Governor Kim Dongyeon visited the disaster site in Gapyeong County on the 22nd to assess the damage and instructed that daily recovery support funds be provided to local small business owners affected by the disaster.

Last November, Gyeonggi Province provided support funds of 10 million won per household to 3,100 households to help small business owners recover from heavy snowfall damage.

Based on this experience, Gyeonggi Province established, for the first time in the country, ordinances related to the "special support zone" and "daily recovery support fund" systems, which took effect this month. This is the first support being provided since the implementation of the ordinance.

For small business owners, Gyeonggi Province will provide "6 million won plus additional support," and for affected farms, up to 10 million won will be provided for expenses such as demolition costs. In addition, the families of those who lost their lives will receive 30 million won for funeral and related expenses.

Governor Kim Dongyeon promised the following support measures for areas affected by the heavy rains: reduction of health insurance premiums and discounts on electricity, telecommunications, and city gas bills; if the governor recognizes serious human or property damage, 50% support for city and county recovery costs; swift execution of the Gyeonggi Province disaster management fund for rapid recovery; and up to 10 million won in support for farms in insurance blind spots, including agriculture, livestock, and aquaculture operations.

Earlier that day, Governor Kim Dongyeon visited the search and rescue site in Mile-ri, Jojong-myeon, Gapyeong County, where two people were missing, to encourage the rescue teams. He also visited the Jinsang 1-ri village hall in Jojong-myeon to comfort more than 20 residents who had evacuated there.

Speaking with reporters at the village hall, Governor Kim Dongyeon said, "I would like to express my deepest condolences to those who lost their lives and their families due to this torrential rain," adding, "We are prioritizing the search and rescue of the missing persons, mobilizing all firefighting and administrative resources to devote our full efforts to the search operations."

He continued, "Once again, I pray for the souls of those who lost their lives, extend my heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families, wish a speedy recovery to those who were injured, and promise that our province will work together with Gapyeong County and Pocheon City to provide the fullest possible support to all affected residents."
