On July 22, Hyundai Department Store Group announced that it will create an urban park called 'Regreen Park' on unused land in the city, in cooperation with Gwangju Metropolitan City and the non-profit organization Life Forest.

Hyundai GF Holdings, the holding company of Hyundai Department Store Group, signed a three-party memorandum of understanding (MOU) for the creation of Regreen Park at Gwangju Metropolitan City Hall on the same day. The signing ceremony was attended by Jang Hojin, President of Hyundai GF Holdings; Kim Gijeong, Mayor of Gwangju Metropolitan City; and Heo Sangman, Chairman of Life Forest.

This agreement is part of the second Regreen Park project, following the first one in Cheongju, North Chungcheong Province last year. Regreen Park is a business model in which idle land neglected in local communities is restored into urban forests through public-private cooperation, utilizing Hyundai Department Store Group's ESG brand 'Re.Green'.

The Gwangju Regreen Park will be built in the Sinyong-dong area of Buk-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City, covering approximately 27,869 square meters (about 8,400 pyeong), and is scheduled to open in June next year.

The park will be developed as an urban healing space featuring a grass plaza, a barefoot forest trail, a children's forest playground, a nature experience and learning area, and water facilities. An eco-friendly design will also be applied, including a rainwater recycling system for water storage and use.

Jang Hojin, President of Hyundai GF Holdings, said, "Regreen Park represents Hyundai Department Store Group's commitment to environmental action, not only by creating urban green spaces but also by working with the local community to address the climate crisis. We will continue to take the lead in creating a sustainable environment for future generations by restoring idle urban land into forests through eco-friendly initiatives."
