Mayor Lee Hyunjae: "A Turning Point for Hanam's Metropolitan Transit Network"

On July 21, the city of Hanam in Gyeonggi Province announced that the Metropolitan Transportation Committee of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport (known as Dae-gwang-wi) is scheduled to approve the master plan for the construction of the Songpa-Hanam Line (an extension of Subway Line 3), a metropolitan railway connecting Songpa District in Seoul and Hanam City Hall, on July 22.

With the approval of this master plan, Hanam’s metropolitan railway network expansion will officially begin, and accessibility to the Gangnam area of Seoul is expected to improve dramatically.

The Songpa-Hanam Line is planned to run a total length of 11.7 kilometers from Ogeum Station in Songpa District, Seoul, to Hanam City Hall Station, with six stations in total. The total project cost is 1.8356 trillion won, and the line is targeted to open in 2032.

The planned stations include one in Songpa District (Station 100), one in Gam-il New Town (Station 101), three in Gyosan New Town (Stations 102 to 104), and one in the original downtown area (Hanam City Hall Station), for a total of six stations.

In particular, during the approval process, Station 104 (tentatively named Sindeokpung Station) was relocated 340 meters north of its original position at the time of the preliminary feasibility study by public institutions. As a result, vertical transfers and the establishment of a public pedestrian passage to the Hanam Dream Integrated Transfer Center have become possible. Accordingly, accessibility for residents of Deokpung-dong to Station 104 (tentatively named Sindeokpung Station) is expected to improve significantly.

Once the Songpa-Hanam Line opens, transportation convenience will be dramatically enhanced. The current bus journey between Hanam Gyosan and Gangnam Express Bus Terminal, which takes about 70 minutes, will be reduced to about 40 minutes by rail, cutting commuting time by more than 30 minutes.

Lee Hyunjae, Mayor of Hanam, stated, "The approval of the Songpa-Hanam Line master plan marks an important turning point in building a metropolitan railway network. In particular, through close cooperation with relevant agencies during this process, we achieved the relocation of Station 104 (tentatively named Sindeokpung Station) to the north, significantly improving the convenience of Songpa-Hanam Line (Subway Line 3) use for residents in Deokpung-dong and the northern part of Gyosan New Town."

He added, "We will do our utmost to ensure that citizens' opinions, such as the installation of station entrances, are fully reflected during the basic and detailed design phases in the future."
