A lifeguard stationed by Yeongdeok County at a local beach has drawn attention for saving the life of a Chinese tourist who suffered cardiac arrest through a swift response.
On the afternoon of July 19, a Chinese tourist, identified as A, suddenly lost consciousness and collapsed due to cardiac arrest while resting on a platform installed at Hajuh Beach. Four lifeguards stationed at the beach immediately recognized the situation, quickly assessed A's condition, and began performing cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR).

The lifeguards administered CPR in relay, maintaining precise compression speed and depth. Thanks to their teamwork and skilled emergency response, A gradually regained consciousness.
Afterwards, A was handed over to the 119 emergency medical team upon their arrival at the scene. Following emergency treatment by the paramedics, A was urgently transported to a nearby hospital and is currently in stable condition, with no threat to life reported.
This case highlights the effectiveness of thorough training and on-site response capabilities of the beach operation committee and lifeguards. Yeongdeok County currently assigns lifeguards to seven designated beaches within its jurisdiction and conducts regular emergency response training.
Kim Kwangyeol, the county governor, stated, "Tens of thousands of vacationers visit our local beaches each day, so we are preparing our lifeguards to respond skillfully to any kind of accident. We will maintain a thorough safety management system through systematic training and personnel operations so that visitors can enjoy their summer with peace of mind."
