On July 21, the KLPGA Tour announced that the KG Ladies Open, which had a total prize fund of 800 million won last year, has increased its purse by 200 million won. The winner's prize has also risen from 144 million won to 180 million won. As a result, 29 out of the 30 KLPGA Tour events held this year will now feature total prize money exceeding 1 billion won. The only event with a purse below 1 billion won is the Nexen Saint Nine Masters, which was held in April with a total prize fund of 900 million won.
With the KG Ladies Open now offering a 1 billion won prize pool, the total prize money for this year's KLPGA Tour has increased to 33.1 billion won. There are also tournaments in the second half of the year considering further increases in their prize funds, so the total prize pool may grow even larger. KLPGA Chairman Kim Sangyeol stated, "I sincerely thank KG Group for deciding to increase the prize money during these challenging times," and added, "We will spare no effort to ensure the successful hosting of the KG Ladies Open, which has now become a 1 billion won event."
The KG Ladies Open will be held for three days starting August 29 at the Sunny Point Country Club in Yongin, Gyeonggi Province. The defending champion is Sohyun Bae. The tournament has also produced first-time winners such as Kim Jihyun, Kim Suji, Hwang Jeongmi, and Seo Yeonjeong.
