Prime Minister Minseok Kim took swift action on the 20th by dispatching Minister of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs Mireyong Song to the scene in Sancheong County, South Gyeongsang Province, where heavy rainfall and landslides have caused significant casualties.
The Office of the Prime Minister stated, "Prime Minister Kim noted that Sancheong County in South Gyeongsang Province and other areas have suffered particularly severe human and property losses due to the unprecedented heavy rainfall. He instructed officials to ensure a prompt response and recovery plan," adding, "The Minister of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs was dispatched to the site today."
The Office of the Prime Minister also added, "Tomorrow, the Minister of the Interior and Safety, who is in charge of disaster response, will be instructed to inspect the site, offer comfort to affected residents, and devise detailed recovery measures."
As of 5 a.m. on July 20, six people had died, seven were missing, and two were seriously injured in Sancheong, South Gyeongsang Province alone, due to torrential rains and landslides that began on July 16.
