Namwon City in North Jeolla Province will implement a water bill reduction system starting this month for residents living around the water source protection area.
According to the city on July 18, this water bill reduction system was introduced to alleviate the financial burden on residents and to realize a sustainable water management policy.

The reduction applies to households residing in areas where factory establishment is restricted around the water source protection area. Five tons will be deducted from the total water usage when calculating water bills, and if less than five tons are used, the entire usage will be covered by the reduction. If a household is eligible for multiple reductions, the highest reduction rate will be applied.
No separate application process is required for eligible residents, and reduced bills will be sent out starting next month.
Mayor Choi Kyungshik stated, "Residents living around the water source protection area have been unsung heroes, voluntarily protecting the environment to safeguard water quality in response to climate change. I hope that this reduction system will not only ease the practical living burden of residents but also serve as an opportunity to share the value of water resources together."
Meanwhile, the water source protection area is a special management zone designated by the government to supply clean tap water, and local residents have been enduring restrictions on factory establishment and various inconveniences in daily life.
