Leap Toward a Leading Military Culture and Wellness City: Mayor Lee Eungwoo Drives Major Transformation in Gyeryong During the 8th Administration Lee Eungwoo Gyeryong Mayor

Gyeryong City in South Chungcheong Province is making a significant leap forward in the 8th popularly elected administration, greatly enhancing its external reputation as the "safest city," a "young and vibrant city," and a "leading global military culture city." In particular, the hands-on administrative approach and pioneering policies promoted by Mayor Lee Eungwoo are drawing attention.

Above all, Mayor Lee has prioritized "citizen safety" as the city's highest value, focusing on strengthening the public safety system and expanding the social safety net. As a result, Gyeryong is now recognized as one of the safest urban environments in the country. This is a direct reflection of the city administration's philosophy to create an environment where every citizen can feel secure in their daily lives.

Efforts to build a young and dynamic city have also yielded results. Through a variety of policies aimed at increasing the birth rate and attracting a younger population, the city has seen steady population growth and has established itself as a "livable city full of hope."

Establishing its identity as a military culture city is another key achievement. The annual Gyeryong Military Culture Festival has grown into a flagship event that attracts attention from abroad. This festival is credited with revitalizing the local economy and greatly enhancing Gyeryong's external image.

The city is also emerging as a wellness city and a leader in eco-friendly initiatives. Mayor Lee has proactively implemented carbon neutrality policies and expanded programs to promote citizen health and leisure, focusing on improving quality of life. These efforts have earned Gyeryong a positive reputation both domestically and internationally as a "model eco-friendly city."

The city has strengthened citizen trust through communication-centered governance, achieving recognition by winning the grand prize in the "Citizen Communication" category of Korea's Creative Management Awards.

Since the start of the 8th administration, the city has not overlooked even the smallest inconveniences faced by citizens, practicing citizen-oriented administration by incorporating feedback from the field into policy through various channels.

Building on these achievements, Gyeryong is expected to set a new standard for urban administration in Korea as it grows into a city that encompasses sustainable environmental development, citizen-centered governance, and global stature.

Mayor Lee Eungwoo stated, "The changes in Gyeryong City achieved together with our citizens during the 8th administration are a proud stepping stone toward the future," adding, "We will continue to take on new challenges for a better Gyeryong and do our utmost to help the city grow into a world-class military culture city."
