Kim Dongyeon, Governor of Gyeonggi Province, visited the site of a residential complex fire in Sohadong, Gwangmyeong City on the night of the 17th, where more than 50 people were injured, to assess the damage and promised active support.
At around 11:40 p.m. that night, Governor Kim arrived at the scene, received a briefing on the situation from Kim Jaebyeong, Head of the Gyeonggi Fire and Disaster Headquarters, and, together with Park Myungwon, Mayor of Gwangmyeong, checked on the health conditions of the affected residents. He also promised active support for temporary housing facilities for those displaced by the fire.

Earlier, at around 9:05 p.m. that evening, a fire broke out in the piloti parking lot on the first floor of a ten-story apartment building in Sohadong, Gwangmyeong City. The fire resulted in three people suffering cardiac arrest, fourteen people sustaining serious injuries, and thirty-seven people experiencing minor injuries such as smoke inhalation.
The injured are being treated at ten nearby hospitals.
The fire authorities declared a level 2 response just seven minutes after the fire broke out, mobilizing over fifty fire engines and hundreds of firefighters, and managed to bring the major flames under control within 50 to 90 minutes after the fire started.
The police and fire authorities are investigating the cause of the fire, following residents' reports that it started in a vehicle inside the parking lot.
Meanwhile, Governor Kim Dongyeon decided not to attend the scheduled Kiwoohoe meeting on the morning of the 18th.
