As the RE100 Industrial Complex initiative under the Lee Jaemyung administration is drawing nationwide attention, Gwangju City has also begun to take steps toward implementing a 'Gwangju-style RE100' policy.
On July 17, Park Pilsoon, Chair of the Industry and Construction Committee of Gwangju City Council, held the "Gwangju RE100 Promotion Meeting" in the city council's main conference room with officials from relevant Gwangju City departments and related organizations, to discuss local response measures.
The government has recently launched a joint task force with relevant ministries and has begun earnest efforts to establish RE100 industrial complexes. In line with this, Gwangju City plans to promote its own 'Gwangju-style RE100' model, which includes the creation of industrial complexes linked to agrivoltaics and distributed energy special zones.
The meeting was attended by Chair Park Pilsoon, City Council member Lim Miran, officials from four key Gwangju City departments, the Energy Business Division of Gwangju Urban Corporation, and the Gwangju Climate and Energy Promotion Agency. Participants shared updates on each organization's initiatives and discussed ways to collaborate.
Chair Park stated, "As an inland city, Gwangju faces challenges in achieving energy self-sufficiency, but joint action with neighboring local governments such as Jeonnam is crucial within the broader framework of balanced regional development. Just as the central government is breaking down barriers between ministries under the Ministry of Climate and Energy, Gwangju City Council will actively cooperate at the council level to enable efficient interdepartmental collaboration and effective implementation of RE100 policies."
