Fishing Boat Capsizes off Wando Port... Coast Guard Rescues All 4 Crew Members

"Swept Away by Swell During Breakwater Construction"

An accident occurred off the coast of Wando, South Jeolla Province, where a fishing boat capsized, but all four crew members were safely rescued by the Coast Guard.

According to the Wando Coast Guard Station, at around 12:25 p.m. on the 17th, they received a report that "people are on top of a capsized fishing boat" in the waters in front of the Wando Fishery Cooperative at Wando Port, Wando County, and launched a rescue operation.

The Coast Guard arrived at the scene at 12:30 p.m., just five minutes after receiving the report, and safely rescued all four crew members who were waiting for help on top of the capsized vessel A (2.5 tons, outboard motor). The rescued crew members were confirmed to be in good health.

It was reported that vessel A was participating in the installation of a silt curtain for the Wando Port breakwater construction when it lost balance and capsized after being hit by a sudden swell. Immediately after the rescue, the Coast Guard made every effort to prevent a secondary accident by installing a lift bag (an air-inflated buoyancy device) to stop the vessel from sinking.

A Coast Guard official stated, "We plan to conduct further investigations with the crew members to determine the exact cause of the accident."
