Safe Overseas Travel: "Get Your Measles Vaccination" Measles Prevention Guidelines Poster. Provided by Jeonnam Province

Jeonnam Province has urged residents to follow infectious disease prevention guidelines, including receiving measles vaccinations, as overseas travel is expected to increase during the summer vacation and holiday season.

According to Jeonnam Province on the 17th, since March, a total of 10 measles cases have been reported in the province, beginning with an 11-month-old infant who was diagnosed with measles after visiting their home country, Vietnam. Of these, three cases were imported from overseas.

Measles can be effectively prevented through vaccination, so it is important to check your MMR (measles, mumps, rubella) vaccination status before visiting countries where measles is prevalent, such as Vietnam.

If you are unsure of your vaccination status, you should receive two doses 4 to 6 weeks before departure. Infants under one year old (6 to 11 months) who are traveling to countries where measles is prevalent can receive an accelerated measles vaccination free of charge.

If you experience suspected symptoms such as a high fever of 38 degrees Celsius or higher, skin rash, or conjunctivitis after traveling, you should visit a medical facility immediately, inform them of your overseas travel history, and receive medical attention.

Jeonnam Province is working to prevent the spread of measles in the community by providing 9,000 infection control supplies to areas where cases have occurred, holding meetings with public health center officials in cities and counties, and distributing 12,000 measles vaccination information leaflets to family centers and passport issuing departments in 22 cities and counties.

In addition, Jeonnam Province is offering free antibody testing for 400 people at eight pediatric medical institutions in the province, and is strongly recommending vaccination for those who do not have antibodies.

Jeong Gwangseon, Director of Health and Welfare for Jeonnam Province, stated, "As the number of overseas travelers increases during the summer vacation and holiday season, we urge everyone to complete their measles vaccinations before departure and to strictly follow respiratory infection prevention guidelines such as hand washing and wearing masks during travel."
