The WSCE is the largest smart city exhibition in Asia, co-hosted by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport and the Ministry of Science and ICT. Since 2017, it has brought together smart technologies and urban innovation cases from around the world every year.
The '2025 World Smart City Expo Awards' is a prestigious award that recognizes outstanding technologies, services, and projects in the smart city sector, and is presented to domestic and international cities and organizations.
This year's awards were evaluated across a total of nine categories, including AI & Data, Mobility, Energy & Environment, and Domestic and International Cities. Among these, Goyang City was recognized as an excellent city in the 'Domestic City' category.
Since 2018, Goyang Special City has continuously promoted experiential smart city services that identify and solve urban issues together with citizens, focusing on the 'Living Lab' model. In particular, at this year's awards, the 'Social Safety Net Solution for Protecting Vulnerable Wanderers Using Opportunity Networks' received high praise.
This solution was designed to address the safety issues of dementia patients and missing elderly people, which are increasing due to population aging. By implementing wandering detection and location tracking functions, it enables rapid discovery and protection, thus helping to prevent accidents.
An official from Goyang Special City stated, "As reports of dementia and missing persons increase due to aging, we expect that the Social Safety Net Solution for Protecting Vulnerable Wanderers will provide practical help in preventing accidents involving dementia patients and missing elderly people." The official added, "We will continue to expand smart city services that citizens can truly experience."
