Hwaseong City Accelerates Follow-up Procedures Including Consignment Agreement
Jung Myunggeun: "Speeding Up the Restructuring of a Railway-centered Transportation System"
On July 16, the city of Hwaseong in Gyeonggi Province announced that the project to establish a new station, tentatively named Solbitnaru Station, on the extended section of Subway Line 1, has received project approval from the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport.
On the same day, the Ministry notified the city of the approval and sent an official document instructing, "Hwaseong City, the National Railroad Corporation, and Korea Railroad Corporation should proceed with the project after signing a tripartite agreement."
The establishment of Solbitnaru Station has long been a major wish of residents in Dongtan New Town. The new station will be constructed within the section connecting Seodongtan and Dongtan Stations on the Seoul Metropolitan Subway Line 1, with Hwaseong City covering the costs.
Once the station is built, nearby residents will be able to travel directly to key destinations such as Seoul Station and Suwon Station by subway without transfers. Transfers to lines such as GTX-A and SRT will also be available at Dongtan Station.
This project approval follows the feasibility review passed by the National Railroad Corporation at the end of last month. With the legal basis for the new station secured, the city plans to proceed swiftly with subsequent procedures.
The city will promptly conclude a consignment agreement with relevant agencies, which will include the division of institutional responsibilities, and will focus its administrative resources on preparing for an investment review to allocate the city budget.
Hwaseong Mayor Jung Myunggeun stated, "To ensure the city's sustainable development, we will restructure the public transportation system around railways and minimize transportation inconveniences for our citizens."
