JW Bioscience Launches Automated Tissue Sample Block System in Korea

World's First Fully Automated Continuous Embedding System
JW Bioscience Launches Sakura Finetek's 'AutoTEC a120' in Korea

JW Bioscience announced on July 16 that it has launched the continuous automatic embedding system 'Tissue-Tek AutoTEC a120' from Japan's pathology automation specialist company Sakura Finetek in Korea.

The 'AutoTEC a120' is the industry's first and only fully automated continuous embedding system. It automates the process of converting patient tissue samples into paraffin blocks during the pathology diagnosis workflow.

Embedding refers to the process of preparing tissue samples collected from patients into blocks for examination. Cutting the tissue into uniform thickness is critical for microscopic analysis, which is directly linked to diagnostic accuracy.

This system uses automation devices and dedicated cases to maintain the alignment of tissue samples and produce standardized blocks. It also has a processing speed capable of producing up to 120 tissue sample blocks per hour.

In particular, it can address issues that may occur in conventional manual embedding processes, such as sample loss, contamination, tissue misalignment, and inconsistency in embedding quality.

After the introduction of AutoTEC a120 at pathology diagnostic institutions in North America, embedding quality-related errors decreased by approximately 44% compared to manual processes, and the precision and safety of the blocks were significantly improved.

A JW Bioscience representative stated, "As the demand for cancer diagnosis increases due to population aging and the advancement of precision medicine leads to more sophisticated pathology testing, the workload is growing and interest in automation is rising. With AutoTEC a120, we expect not only to dramatically improve diagnostic accuracy but also to revolutionize operational efficiency in laboratories."

Meanwhile, JW Bioscience, a subsidiary of JW Life Science, is a specialized company in the field of in vitro diagnostics. Based on its partnership with Sakura Finetek, it exclusively supplies not only AutoTEC a120 but also other pathology automation equipment in Korea, such as the continuous tissue processor 'Xpress x120', the automatic stainer 'Prisma Plus', and the film coverslipper 'Film E2'.
