[Weather] Strong and Heavy Rain to Hit Seoul Metropolitan Area and Other Regions from Tomorrow... Nationwide Expansion by Morning Yonhap News

Starting from July 16, strong and heavy rainfall is expected to mainly affect the western regions, including the Seoul metropolitan area.


In the early morning of July 16, rain will begin again in the northeastern part of Gyeonggi Province and the central and northern inland and mountainous areas of Gangwon Province. The rain is expected to expand nationwide during the morning.


In the Seoul metropolitan area, from the afternoon of July 16, the southern part of Gyeonggi Province will see rainfall of 30 to 50 mm per hour, while other areas will experience about 30 mm of rain per hour. In Gangwon Province, starting from the night of July 16, the central and southern inland areas are expected to receive 30 to 50 mm of rain per hour, and the northern inland and mountainous areas around 30 mm per hour.


In the Chungcheong region, rain will begin on the west coast of South Chungcheong Province from the afternoon of July 16. In the Honam region, the northwestern part of North Jeolla Province is expected to see rainfall of 30 to 50 mm per hour in the early morning of July 17.


If a band-shaped rain cloud forms, the amount of rainfall can vary within a single area depending on the position of the cloud band.


The total rainfall over the two days of July 16 and 17 is expected to be 50 to 150 mm in the Seoul metropolitan area and Chungcheong region (with up to over 200 mm in southern Gyeonggi Province and the west coast of South Chungcheong Province); 50 to 100 mm in inland and mountainous areas of Gangwon Province and North Chungcheong Province (with up to over 150 mm in the central and southern inland areas of Gangwon Province and North Chungcheong Province); and 30 to 100 mm in North Jeolla Province (with up to over 150 mm in the northwestern part).


In addition, strong winds with instantaneous speeds of around 55 km/h (15 m/s) are expected to continue nationwide for the time being, so precautions are advised.


On July 16, the morning low temperatures are expected to range from 19 to 24 degrees Celsius, and the daytime high temperatures from 26 to 31 degrees Celsius. The forecasted minimum and maximum temperatures for major cities are as follows: Seoul, Gwangju, and Ulsan at 23 and 28 degrees; Incheon at 23 and 26 degrees; Daejeon at 23 and 27 degrees; Daegu at 22 and 28 degrees; and Busan at 24 and 28 degrees.
