Jeonnam Province held the 21st Yeonghonam Farmers' Harmony Festival on July 14 in Changwon, Gyeongnam Province.
The Yeonghonam Farmers' Harmony Festival has been alternately hosted by Jeonnam Province and Gyeongnam Province since 2004. This year, under the theme "A Strong Step Forward by Yeonghonam Farmers for the Future of Korean Agriculture!!," more than 450 Yeonghonam farmers attended, including Hong Youngshin, President of the Jeonnam Chapter of the Korea Advanced Farmers Federation, and Ahn Byunghwa, President of the Gyeongbuk Chapter.
The event featured the reading of the Yeonghonam Farmers' Resolution, donations for wildfire recovery, the hometown love donation ceremony, and an exchange of agricultural specialties from Yeonghonam.
In particular, the Jeonnam and Gyeongnam chapters each delivered a hometown love donation of 1 million won to Gyeongnam Province and Jeonnam Province, reaffirming their commitment to mutually beneficial cooperation between Yeonghonam regions.
Hong Youngshin, President of the Jeonnam Chapter, stated, "This mutual exchange of hometown love donations is not merely a formality, but an expression of the determination of Yeonghonam farmers to unite and cooperate for the advancement of Korean agriculture."
During the event, representative agricultural specialties from Yeonghonam, such as Jangheung shiitake mushrooms and Naju pears from Jeonnam, Yeonggwang Toksoju, Haman watermelons, and sweet persimmon juice from Gyeongnam, were exchanged, strengthening the network for sharing advanced agricultural techniques and mutual prosperity.
Kim Yungrok, Governor of Jeonnam Province, said in a video congratulatory message, "Jeonnam Province is innovating agriculture with AI and big data, and creating new sources of income with agrivoltaics. We are also working to improve the coverage of crop disaster insurance in response to the increasing frequency of climate disasters. I hope Yeonghonam, with its similar agricultural environment, will join together in this wave of innovation and change."
He continued, "The spirit of harmony that has continued for over 20 years is leading to greater cooperation between Jeonnam and Gyeongnam. We are working on the enactment of the Special Act on the Development of the Southern Coastal Region, jointly bidding for the UN Climate Change Conference (COP33) in the Namhaean Namjung Region, and collaborating on the construction of the Yeosu-Namhae undersea tunnel. Let us continue to usher in a bright new era for the southern coast together."
