The operating room at Chosun University Hospital, which is currently undergoing restoration following a fire, is expected to resume operations as early as July 17.
According to Chosun University Hospital on July 15, the hospital plans to complete follow-up procedures for the fire, including safety inspections and sterilization, by July 16.
If the safety inspections and other procedures are completed as scheduled, Chosun University Hospital plans to resume operating room use from the morning of July 17. However, of the hospital's 15 operating rooms, Operating Room 7, where the fire broke out, will remain closed until facility restoration is complete. This particular operating room is reportedly equipped with the facilities and equipment necessary for organ transplantation.
It has been tentatively determined that around 70 patients experienced disruptions to their surgery schedules during the three days from the day of the fire until July 16. Some patients who were waiting have sought care at other medical institutions.
The fire broke out at approximately 8:12 a.m. on July 14 in Operating Room 7 on the third floor of the new building at Chosun University Hospital. Although the fire was extinguished by the medical staff themselves, five staff members inhaled smoke during the initial response and received oxygen therapy. Both the fire authorities and hospital officials believe the fire was caused by an electrical issue and are working to determine the exact cause.
