Gwangju: Exports Up 2.1%, Imports Up 46.1%
Jeonnam: Exports Down 7.4%, Imports Down 9.0%
In June 2025, exports from Gwangju and Jeonnam amounted to $4.758 billion, while imports totaled $3.761 billion, representing decreases of 4.7% and 1.7%, respectively, compared to the same month last year. The trade balance recorded a surplus of $997 million. Although both exports and imports declined, the trade surplus trend continued.
According to the "June Export and Import Trends" announced by the Gwangju Main Customs Office on July 15, exports from Gwangju and Jeonnam reached $4.758 billion, down 4.7% from June of the previous year. Imports amounted to $3.761 billion, a decrease of 1.7%.
For the cumulative period from January to June 2025, exports fell by 12.3% compared to the previous year, while imports declined by 9.0%. The trade balance posted a surplus of $6.431 billion.
In June 2025, Gwangju's exports totaled $1.433 billion, an increase of 2.1% from the same month last year. Imports surged by 46.1% to $742 million. The trade balance recorded a surplus of $691 million.
Among Gwangju's major export items, transportation equipment increased by 4.3%, semiconductors by 13.6%, and machinery by 5.3%. In contrast, home appliances decreased by 42.9%, and tires by 29.4%. On the import side, semiconductors rose by 58.5%, rubber by 22.3%, machinery by 17.2%, and home appliances by 27.6%. Chemical products, however, declined by 46.7%.
Jeonnam's exports in June 2025 totaled $3.325 billion, down 7.4% from the same month last year. Imports decreased by 9.0% to $3.019 billion. The trade balance showed a surplus of $306 million.
In Jeonnam, exports of transportation equipment increased by 38.8%, and machinery by 150.2%. However, petroleum products fell by 3.7%, chemical products by 26.2%, and steel products by 2.0%. On the import side, iron ore rose by 6.9%, while petroleum products fell by 27.2%, crude oil by 15.6%, coal by 11.2%, and chemical products by 24.1%.
