On-site Inspections and Guidance Activities
at Valleys, Tourist Attractions, and More
Jeonbuk Special Self-Governing Province announced on July 15 that it will conduct intensive crackdowns on illegal activities in forests as the peak summer vacation season begins.
The province has designated the next two months, until August 31, as the “Summer Forest Illegal Activity Intensive Crackdown Period.” During this time, it will strengthen on-site inspections and guidance activities, focusing on major valleys, famous mountains, and tourist attractions within the province.
This crackdown will follow the principle of “guidance first, enforcement later,” combining advance publicity with strict enforcement of the law for any violations discovered during on-site inspections.
The main targets for inspection include: ▲ cooking or making fires in forests ▲ illegal dumping of household or construction waste ▲ installation of unauthorized facilities ▲ damage to standing trees, and other acts that harm the forest environment.
In particular, patrols will be intensified in areas where crowds gather during the summer. The province will also focus on prevention by installing banners and information boards near valleys and hiking trails where illegal activities frequently occur.
The province will establish a cooperative system with relevant agencies such as the Western Regional Forest Service, Korea National Park Service, and city and county forestry departments. For any violations detected, it plans to take strong measures, including legal action, fines, and orders for restoration to the original state.
Song Geumhyeon, Director of the Environmental and Forestry Bureau, stated, “Above all, the voluntary participation and cooperation of residents and visitors is crucial for creating a pleasant and safe forest environment during the summer.” He added, “We hope everyone will join in establishing a mature forest culture that protects our green forests together.”
