"Punished Even for Pressing 'Like' on SNS"... Government Employees' Union Demands Guarantee of Political Rights from National Policy Planning Committee The Government Employees' Union is delivering a policy request letter to the National Policy Planning Committee on the 14th. Provided by the Government Employees' Union.

This visit was intended to serve as a policy milestone to restore government employees' rights to political expression, party membership, and political donations. The union also aimed to ensure that these demands are reflected as a core state agenda for the Lee Jaemyung administration.

Under the slogan "Government Employees Are Citizens Too," the Government Employees' Union delivered a policy request letter to the committee. The letter centers on core demands such as freedom of expression, permission for party membership, and liberalization of political donations for government employees.

At the meeting, the National Policy Planning Committee was represented by Jeong Heungjun and Lee Oknam, experts from the Social Affairs Division 1. They expressed the urgent need to address unreasonable restrictions, emphasizing that excessive limitations on basic political rights?such as government employees facing disciplinary action for merely pressing "like" on social networking services (SNS)?must be corrected to prevent further harm to government employees.

Kim Hyunjin, Chairperson of the Government Employees' Union, stated, "As citizens, government employees are entitled to enjoy the fundamental rights guaranteed by the Constitution. Political neutrality should not be used as a justification to restrict these basic rights, and this is an important issue that can no longer be postponed."

The Government Employees' Union has already been holding a series of meetings and parliamentary forums with lawmakers, calling for the enactment and revision of laws to guarantee basic political rights. Based on these efforts, the union is expanding its activities to achieve tangible legislative results. Meanwhile, on the 3rd, the Korean Confederation of Trade Unions also held a meeting with the Social Affairs Division 1 of the National Policy Planning Committee, demanding the guarantee of basic political rights for government employees.
