An urgent proposal to resolve the industrial crisis in the eastern region of Jeollanam-do and to normalize the Yeosun Incident Committee was raised at the Democratic Party of Korea's floor strategy meeting on July 15.

Kim Moonsoo, Deputy Floor Leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, emphasized the need for a complete reorganization of the Yeosun Incident Truth Investigation Committee on this day, pointing out the problems of the current committee.

He criticized, "The current Yeosun Incident Committee is composed of individuals with a tendency to distort history, while excluding representatives of the bereaved families." He specifically mentioned the backgrounds of Chairman Oh Youngseop and member Lee Minwon, arguing, "Their activities as committee members run counter to the intent of the Yeosun Incident Special Act."

Regarding the industrial crisis in the eastern region of Jeollanam-do, he highlighted the seriousness of the situation by stating, "Key industries in Yeosu and Gwangyang have fallen into a prolonged slump due to changes in the global environment." He also emphasized the economic difficulties in the region, noting that this year's local tax revenue is expected to decrease by 20.4% compared to the previous year.

As alternatives for industrial revitalization, Deputy Floor Leader Kim suggested the green bio industry, space and defense industries, renewable energy, and AI-based smart agriculture and livestock industries.

Deputy Floor Leader Kim stressed, "Now is the time for bold national investments with a vision for the next 100 years," and added, "A strategic approach at the national level is urgently needed so that the eastern region of Jeollanam-do can become a forward base for Korea's industrial transformation." He further urged, "The ultimate goal of politics and policy is the lives of the people," calling for fundamental solutions to the problems.
