On July 15, the Gwangju city government announced that it will openly recruit 50 members for the "4th Gwangju City Public Architects" until July 25 in order to realize a creative architectural city and enhance the city's quality and dignity.

Public architects participate in every stage of public building and spatial environment improvement projects promoted by public institutions, including planning, design, construction, and maintenance. They play a key role in maintaining consistency and improving design quality. The city introduced the public architect system in 2019, and a total of 100 public architects have served as private sector experts across three terms so far.

The 4th term of public architects will consist of 50 experts in fields such as architecture, urban planning, and landscape architecture. They will participate in various public architecture projects promoted by the city and serve as advisors. The selection committee will review the candidates, and the appointments are scheduled for August. The term of office will be two years from the date of appointment.

Eligible applicants include architects, professional engineers in architecture, urban planning, or landscape architecture, and associate professors or higher at universities or accredited research institutions. Emerging architects and those with recognized awards in architecture will be given preference. Applicants should download the application form from the "Notices and Announcements" section of the Gwangju city website and submit it via email. For more details, inquiries can be made to the Gwangju City Architectural Landscape Division.

Jung Seungcheol, head of the Architectural Landscape Division, said, "The public architect system plays an important role in enhancing the value and dignity of Gwangju-style urban development." He added, "With large-scale projects such as the redevelopment of the former Jeonbang and Ilsin Textile sites and the Gwangcheon Terminal complex development currently underway, we look forward to the active participation of highly qualified experts."
