The Chungnam Provincial Office of Education announced on July 14 that it will conduct proactive safety inspections at school construction sites across the province, as well as at the 14 city and county education offices, to prepare for various natural disasters during the summer season.

Currently, around 50 construction projects are underway at schools in the province. The provincial office of education plans to establish safety measures for students, faculty, and construction site workers against recurring heavy rainfall and heatwaves during the summer through on-site safety inspections.

This safety inspection will cover the condition of rainwater drainage facilities, the stability of temporary structures, the installation of slope protection facilities, and, as a measure to protect workers during heatwaves, adherence to the five basic rules for preventing heat-related illnesses (water, shade, rest, cooling equipment, and emergency response).

An official from the provincial office of education stated, "Due to the recent impacts of climate change, situations where heavy rain and heatwaves occur simultaneously have become more frequent, making thorough and proactive inspections even more necessary." The official added, "We will strive to create an educational environment where students and parents can feel safe."
