On July 13 at 2:00 p.m., the Korea Meteorological Administration lifted the heat advisory that had been in effect for Seoul and other areas, and issued a heavy rain advisory for some regions including Jeollanam-do and Gyeongsangnam-do.
Earlier that day, at 10:00 a.m., the Korea Meteorological Administration had issued a heat advisory for all of Seoul, as well as for Gyeonggi, Gangwon, Chungcheongnam-do, Chungcheongbuk-do, Gyeongsangbuk-do, Gyeongsangnam-do, Daejeon, Daegu, Busan, and Sejong. A heat advisory is issued when the maximum apparent temperature exceeds 33 degrees Celsius for two or more consecutive days, or when significant damage from the heat is expected.
With rain either falling or forecast in many parts of the country, the heat has eased somewhat. A heavy rain advisory was issued for four locations in Jeollanam-do (Goheung, Yeosu, Geomundo, and Chodo), four locations in Gyeongsangnam-do (Tongyeong, Sacheon, Goseong, and Namhae), and the eastern part of Jeju Island. In Gangjin, Jeollanam-do, the advisory was upgraded to a heavy rain warning.
According to the Korea Meteorological Administration, as a tropical depression passes south of Jeju Island, rain is expected to fall mainly in the southern regions until the early morning of July 15. A tropical depression is a type of tropical cyclone similar to a typhoon. If a tropical depression strengthens and its maximum sustained wind speed at the center reaches 17 m/s or higher, it is classified as a typhoon.
