U.S. President Donald Trump praised the results of his "tariff war" and demands for increased defense spending from allied countries, claiming that nations which previously took advantage of the United States without showing gratitude are now thankful to America.
In a pre-recorded interview with Fox News aired on the 12th (local time), President Trump stated, "Countries are desperate to do business with us," and added, "They never appreciated our country before, but now they do." President Trump also mentioned, "They took advantage of our country in terms of trade and military."
President Trump further said, "I solved the NATO issue. Countries are actually paying more money," and added, "They didn't even spend 2% (of GDP on defense), but now they are spending 5%."
This interview was conducted by Lara Trump, President Trump's daughter-in-law. President Trump has repeatedly praised his own achievements in office while criticizing the policies of the previous Joe Biden administration. Lara Trump, who has been working as a Fox News host since February, is being mentioned as a potential candidate for the seat of Senator Thom Tillis, who recently voted against a bill led by President Trump and announced that he will not run in the midterm elections next November.
