Yeongju City in North Gyeongsang Province has launched a full-scale on-site response to minimize agricultural damage caused by the summer heatwave and drought.
On July 12, Yeongju City officials visited drought-prone farms in the Munsu-myeon area to inspect the situation regarding the heatwave and drought response.
The on-site inspection was attended by Yoo Junggeun, acting mayor of Yeongju, along with relevant city officials and members of the city council, including Kim Byunggi, chairman of the Yeongju City Council. They directly checked the growth conditions of the crops and the water supply situation.

Acting Mayor Yoo visited a farm in Wolho-ri cultivating watermelons and ginger, received a report on the situation from the head of the Eco-Friendly Agriculture Division, and shared difficulties with the farmers. At the site, farmers appealed for measures to address the prolonged heatwave and limited water supply.
After the inspection, Acting Mayor Yoo held a meeting at City Hall with relevant departments to discuss countermeasures for the heatwave and drought, and called for effective measures such as securing agricultural water, supporting water supply, and managing facilities.
The city plans to include the designation of southern areas such as Pyeongeun and Munsu as habitual drought disaster areas in its comprehensive natural disaster reduction plan. In addition, the city will strengthen interdepartmental cooperation to develop support measures that farmers can truly feel.
Acting Mayor Yoo stated, "We will strengthen field-oriented responses to create a disaster-resilient agricultural environment," and added, "We will implement practical policies that farmers can directly experience."
On the same morning, Acting Mayor Yoo also inspected major tourist sites such as Yeongju Lake and Museom Village, checking the progress of key projects including the auto camping site, Adventure Castle, and observatory. This on-site activity was part of departmental business reports that have been ongoing since July 10.
