Improving Mobility Convenience for Pedestrians in Steep-Sloped Areas
Gwanak-gu in Seoul will install elevators and other vertical transportation facilities in the steeply sloped area near Bian Children's Park in Cheongnyong-dong.
This area has a steep gradient and a staircase-centered structure, which has continuously caused inconvenience for mobility-impaired persons such as the elderly, people with disabilities, and stroller users. In May, the district was finally selected as a priority site for Seoul City's "Convenience Facilities for Mobility-Impaired Persons in High-Altitude Areas" project, and will officially begin the project with 4 billion won in municipal funding.

The project is scheduled for completion in 2027. The area is located at the summit of a low-rise residential zone in a high-altitude district, offering excellent scenic views. It is expected to become a new healing destination in Gwanak-gu, in connection with nearby urban gardens such as the Chunghyo Nanum Garden.
Park Junhee, Mayor of Gwanak-gu, stated, "This project goes beyond simply providing transportation convenience. It is part of expanding basic infrastructure to create an urban environment where everyone can move safely." He added, "We will minimize inconvenience to residents during construction and ensure thorough maintenance and management in the future."
