On July 11, Gumi City held a performance report meeting to celebrate the successful completion of the 'Energy Self-Sufficiency Infrastructure Construction Project,' signaling the official start of its transformation into an eco-friendly industrial city.

This project is a key strategy to transform the Gumi National Industrial Complex into a sustainable, eco-friendly cluster, with a total investment of 35.3 billion KRW over the past three years.

Gumi City has established a full-cycle infrastructure covering power generation, consumption, and management, including the installation of solar power facilities, replacement of energy equipment with high-efficiency alternatives, installation of energy storage systems (ESS) utilizing waste batteries, and demonstration of V2G (Vehicle to Grid) technology that connects electric vehicles to the power grid.

These achievements go beyond simply building facilities, resulting in tangible outcomes such as real energy savings and carbon reduction. The project has reduced annual energy costs by approximately 3.7 billion KRW and achieved a reduction of 8,656 tons of greenhouse gas emissions.

This is expected not only to reduce operating costs for companies within the Gumi National Industrial Complex, but also to significantly strengthen the foundation for ESG management.

In particular, by securing important competitiveness in attracting and operating power-intensive advanced industries such as AI, big data, and semiconductors, Gumi is expected to gain further momentum in industrial restructuring and the creation of future growth engines.

Kim Jangho, Mayor of Gumi, stated, "This project marks the starting point for an innovative transformation of the Gumi National Industrial Complex and is a strategic investment in line with the era of energy transition. Going forward, we will accelerate the creation of a sustainable energy ecosystem, including responding to RE100 and building hydrogen-based energy systems."

Meanwhile, based on these achievements, Gumi City plans to expand the smart energy platform throughout the entire national industrial complex and accelerate the discovery of follow-up projects to create a carbon-neutral industrial complex.
