Birth of a Cultural Welfare Hub for Residents
Integrated Space for Education, Leisure, and Care
Establishment of a Multifunctional Community Complex
Mungyeong-si in Gyeongbuk has marked a significant milestone in expanding its living culture infrastructure to enhance the quality of life for residents. With the completion of the 'Life Culture Center' built in Yeongsun-myeon, the facility has officially begun its role as a community hub and a platform for cultural welfare in the region.
The completion cutting ceremony is taking place at the Yeongsun-myeon Life Culture Center in Mungyeong-si, Gyeongbuk.
On July 11, Mungyeong-si held a successful completion ceremony for the Yeongsun-myeon Life Culture Center at Uigok-ri, Yeongsun-myeon. The event was attended by Mungyeong Mayor Shin Hyun-guk, Gyeongbuk Provincial Assembly member Kim Kyung-sook, members of the city council, heads of local organizations and agencies, as well as about 200 local residents.
The ceremony began with a pre-event performance by the Yeongsun-myeon pungmul troupe, followed by a progress report, presentation of appreciation plaques to contributors, congratulatory speeches, a ribbon-cutting ceremony, and a tour of the facility.
This project was initiated by Mungyeong-si with the goal of alleviating cultural deprivation and improving resident welfare in rural areas. A total budget of 3.1 billion KRW was invested, resulting in a three-story building with a total floor area of 884 square meters.
The center houses a variety of multifunctional spaces, including a learning room, an encounter area, a fitness room, a soundproof room, and a local children's center. These facilities are designed to support intergenerational integration and the revitalization of the local community, operating as a multipurpose complex cultural space.
The city expects the Life Culture Center to expand cultural opportunities for local residents and serve as essential infrastructure supporting the care and education of children and adolescents. Additionally, it is anticipated to function as a central hub that revitalizes rural areas experiencing stagnation due to aging and population decline.
In his congratulatory remarks, Mayor Shin Hyun-guk stated, "The Yeongsun-myeon Life Culture Center is the result of a long-held aspiration of residents and symbolizes a turning point in the region's cultural welfare." He added, "We will continue to strengthen the living culture infrastructure so that everyone can enjoy culture in their daily lives, realizing 'Mungyeong as a city of culture' that residents can truly experience."
With this completion, Mungyeong-si has successfully established a cultural welfare model tailored to rural townships, drawing attention to the potential for expansion to other regions in the future.
