Dongkook Pharmaceutical announced on July 11 that it has launched three types of 'Canny Series' products for pet health.
The Canny Series consists of 'Canny Dent' for oral health, including oral hygiene and bad breath removal for dogs and cats; 'Canny Skin' for skin health; and 'Canny Bugs', a mosquito and tick repellent.
Canny Dent is an oral care toothpaste for pets, classified as a quasi-drug for animals. It contains protein-degrading enzymes such as bromelain, dextranase, and lysozyme, which help maintain oral cleanliness and break down bacteria and plaque. In addition, it includes more than 20 types of natural extracts, such as propolis and Spirulina platensis, to support gum health and eliminate bad breath. The product can be evenly applied between teeth using a finger without brushing, and its excellent adhesion in the mouth makes it easy to use even for pets that have difficulty with brushing. It comes in chicken and sweet potato flavors, which are highly palatable for pets, reducing resistance to use.
The skin of dogs and cats is about one-third as thin as that of humans, making it prone to rapid moisture loss and susceptible to skin diseases. Canny Skin, effective for moisturizing and soothing, is a pet-exclusive moisturizing cream containing 2% high-concentration centella asiatica extract and madecassoside. It also contains more than 30 types of natural extracts that help moisturize the skin and relieve cracked paw pads. The non-sticky cream formula absorbs without residue on the pet's skin, and the tube type packaging prevents dust, fur, and other contaminants from sticking, allowing for hygienic use. It is especially recommended for dogs whose paw pads dry out easily after walks or become severely dry during seasonal changes.
Canny Bugs is a mosquito and tick repellent exclusively for dogs. It contains 15% icaridin as its main ingredient, providing approximately 95% repellent efficacy against mosquitoes and ticks. Mosquitoes are the primary vector for heartworm, which can cause severe complications in a dog's lungs and heart if infected. Ticks can cause not only skin diseases but also zoonotic diseases such as Severe Fever with Thrombocytopenia Syndrome (SFTS), which can be transmitted to both humans and pets. Therefore, thorough prevention is required during outdoor activities such as walks or camping with dogs. Canny Bugs provides protection for up to five hours, and includes additional terpenoid ingredients such as hinoki oil and pine extract. The product contains no harmful substances, has passed sensitivity tests, and can be safely used even for pets weighing less than 1 kg.
A representative from Dongkook Pharmaceutical stated, "According to the 2024 Animal Welfare National Awareness Survey by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs, about 28.6% of the domestic population raises pets, meaning one out of three people in Korea has a pet and cares for them as family." The representative added, "In the rapidly growing pet care market, Dongkook Pharmaceutical plans to introduce a variety of products for the health and happiness of pets, based on our unique technological capabilities and quality control experience."
