On July 10, Pyeongtaek City announced that on the 8th, it had signed a business agreement to promote the "Energy Self-Reliant Village Creation Project" with three local villages and two renewable energy equipment companies.
This project aims to realize energy welfare by supplying renewable energy facilities such as solar power to energy-vulnerable areas, including regions not supplied with city gas, thereby reducing electricity bills and generating income for the villages through village power plants.
The agreement includes three villages?Wondoil Village in Songtan-dong, Masan 1-ri Village in Jinwi-myeon, and Madu-ri Village in Seotan-myeon?as well as two renewable energy equipment companies: Gangnam Powertech Co., Ltd. and GQ Energy Co., Ltd.
According to the agreement, the city will invest 309.7 million won to install 153kW of solar panels in 51 homes across these villages and to establish 35kW "village power plants" in three village halls by the end of the year.
Previously, the city had already established and is operating four energy self-reliant villages within its jurisdiction.
Pyeongtaek Mayor Jung Jangseon stated, "We will actively support the three newly selected villages to become sustainable energy self-reliant communities," adding, "We will continue to promote citizen RE100 projects tailored to the characteristics of our city to improve energy welfare and achieve carbon neutrality."
