Proposals for National Balanced Growth Strategies
at a Meeting Hosted by the National Planning Committee
At a meeting of provincial and municipal officials hosted by the Special Committee on National Balanced Growth under the National Planning Committee, specific measures for the completion of the administrative capital and the inclusion of the president's regional campaign pledges were proposed.
The event was organized to discuss strategies for national balanced growth, implementation plans for the president's key regional pledges, and to share local issues and development strategies by region.
The meeting was presided over by Park Soo-hyun, Chairperson of the Special Committee on National Balanced Growth, and attended by 34 committee members from five metropolitan regions and three special self-governing provinces (the so-called 5 Major Regions and 3 Special Provinces), as well as deputy heads of each province and city. They held extensive discussions on the national balanced growth strategy, fostering regional industries, improving systems to revitalize local areas, and directions for implementing priority regional pledges.
Kim Hakgyun, Deputy Mayor for Administrative Affairs of Sejong City, attended the meeting and made focused proposals regarding the completion of the administrative capital and the establishment of a foundation for future growth.
Deputy Mayor Kim proposed as priority presidential regional pledges for the completion of the administrative capital: the construction and full relocation of the National Assembly Sejong Office and the Presidential Sejong Office within the current presidential term, and the establishment of a legal framework to officially designate Sejong as the administrative capital. In addition, he included a total of 10 proposals, such as the early opening of the metropolitan express railway (CTX) passing through downtown Sejong, the establishment of the First Town IC on the Daejeon-Dangjin Expressway, and the construction of a Heavy Ion Accelerator Cancer Treatment Center in the central region. As part of the national balanced growth strategy, he also suggested five initiatives, including the creation of an advanced industry belt for future strategic technologies in the central region, the establishment of an educational support system for nurturing global talent, and the improvement of local budget support systems.
Kim Hakgyun, Deputy Mayor for Administrative Affairs, stated, "I hope that the proposals submitted by Sejong City for the completion of the administrative capital and the creation of a future industrial ecosystem will be thoroughly reviewed and reflected in national policy tasks."
