On July 8, President Lee Jaemyung stated that the government will also join forces regarding the "Livelihood Pledge Consultative Body" (tentative name), which the Democratic Party of Korea and the People Power Party have agreed to establish to discuss common presidential election pledges.
During his opening remarks at a cabinet meeting held at the presidential office in Yongsan on this day, President Lee said, "I ask both parties to pool their wisdom in a way that will genuinely help people's livelihoods," expressing the government's willingness to cooperate.
President Lee further emphasized, "The reason we manage state affairs on behalf of the sovereign people is to bring about real and better changes in their lives. In that sense, the National Assembly, the government, the ruling party, and the opposition party may stand in different places, but we are partners moving toward the shared goal of a better life for the people." He also instructed, "I ask each ministry to carefully review what is necessary to implement the common pledges of both parties."
Additionally, regarding the "1st Defense Industry Day" event hosted by the government on this day, President Lee remarked, "At the time of the Korean War, the Republic of Korea did not have a single tank, but in 75 years, we have grown into the world's 10th largest defense industry power," referencing the 9 trillion won K-2 tank export contract with Poland. President Lee stated, "The defense industry is a new growth engine for our economy and a solid foundation for our national defense," and directed, "Please make cross-ministerial efforts in nurturing talent, investing in research and development, and expanding into overseas markets." He also called for consideration of establishing a new control tower to achieve the goal of becoming one of the world's top four defense industry powers, as well as regularizing the Defense Industry Export Promotion Strategy Meeting.
Meanwhile, regarding the incident in which a child left at home without a guardian died in a fire, President Lee said, "It seems that double and triple checks are necessary for child safety measures," adding, "Recently, there have been cases where children died in fires while their parents were at work. As the summer vacation season is approaching, swift action is needed to prevent similar tragedies. Please review all measures to minimize blind spots in childcare and to ensure overall child safety."
