The Korea Hydrogen Alliance announced on July 7 that it has launched the "Hydrogen Production Base Win-Win Council" to discuss ways to improve the operational efficiency and stability of hydrogen production bases.

The council, held at the Lucky Conference in Seoul, is composed of the Korea Hydrogen Alliance (serving as the secretariat), external experts, hydrogen production base operating organizations, and domestic hydrogen reformer manufacturers.

The external experts include Park Jinnam, a professor at Kyungil University; Lee Youngcheol, vice president of Energin; and Park Eunduk, a professor at Ajou University. The hydrogen production base operating organizations are Gangwon Technopark, Gyeonggi Institute of Economic Science and Technology Promotion Agency, Institute of Advanced Technology, Daejeon Urban Corporation, Busan Technopark, Incheon Green Energy, Changwon Industry Promotion Agency, and Korea Gas Technology Corporation. The hydrogen reformer manufacturers participating are Wonil TNI, JNK Global, and Hyundai Rotem.

Among the external experts, Park Jinnam of Kyungil University will serve as the inaugural chair of the Win-Win Council, leading efforts to coordinate opinions and establish a cooperative framework.

The Korea Hydrogen Alliance has been operating the hydrogen production base construction project since 2019 to support the establishment of a stable hydrogen supply infrastructure in line with the hydrogen mobility distribution policy under the "Hydrogen Economy Revitalization Roadmap." This council focuses on small-scale hydrogen production bases built using the reforming hydrogen production method.

Currently, small-scale hydrogen production bases are facing rising maintenance costs due to the expiration of the free after-sales service (AS) period for equipment. Accordingly, the first council meeting is focusing on establishing a cooperative system between hydrogen production base operating organizations and equipment suppliers to ensure a stable operational structure.

During the council meeting, various topics were discussed, including joint maintenance, joint purchasing of parts, and the establishment of a data-based maintenance system. The council plans to develop win-win cooperation measures by the end of the year through ongoing coordination meetings.

Kim Jaehong, president of the Korea Hydrogen Alliance, stated, "This council will be an important opportunity to secure the safety and economic viability of hydrogen production bases," adding, "We will do our utmost to support the purpose of building hydrogen production bases to promote the spread of hydrogen mobility in Korea, and furthermore, to vitalize the hydrogen economy through support for the entire hydrogen industry cycle."
