Gwangju City Proposes 14 Regional Development Tasks to National Policy Planning Committee Kwangwan Ko, Deputy Mayor of Gwangju, attended the Special Committee on National Balanced Growth meeting between cities and provinces held on the 7th at the National Policy Planning Committee small conference room in Seoul, proposing 14 tasks including 4 national balanced growth strategy tasks and 10 regional pledge tasks. Gwangju City has submitted 14 key proposals for the development of Gwangju to the National Policy Planning Committee, which is responsible for establishing the new government's national policy blueprint.


On the afternoon of July 7, at the 'City and Province Meeting' hosted by the Special Committee on National Balanced Growth of the National Policy Planning Committee at the Government Complex Seoul, Deputy Mayor Kwangwan Ko attended on behalf of Gwangju City and proposed a total of 14 tasks, including 4 national balanced growth strategy tasks and 10 regional pledge tasks.


The national balanced growth strategy tasks include: ▲Relocation of the Gwangju military airport and establishment of the integrated Muan airport ▲Rapid construction of the east-west railway network (Dalbit Railway) ▲Relocation of government and public institutions from the Seoul metropolitan area to regional areas.


The regional pledge tasks include: ▲Establishment of the National AI Computing Center in Gwangju ▲Creation of the AX Demonstration Valley (AI Phase 2) ▲Development of a national pilot city for AI mobility ▲Formation of an AI-based future vehicle parts technology cluster ▲State-led preservation and utilization of 5·18 historic sites ▲Expansion of the Honam Expressway (Donggwangju~Gwangsan IC) ▲Development of an Asian cultural content hub city ▲Attraction and establishment of national cultural facilities, among a total of 10 key projects.


At the meeting, the city requested institutional improvements for the realization of balanced national development and practical support for regional development projects. In particular, it was proposed that the Gwangju-related pledges made by President Lee Jaemyung be included as national policy tasks.


The Special Committee on National Balanced Growth, which is responsible for regional pledges within the National Policy Planning Committee, is holding meetings with all 17 cities and provinces nationwide from July 7 to 8, gathering opinions on balanced growth strategies and priority regional pledges from local governments, sharing them with the relevant policy task departments, and reflecting them in the implementation plan for the top 100 national policy tasks.


Deputy Mayor Kwangwan Ko stated, "For balanced regional development and the fostering of future new industries, the expansion of SOC and the project to establish the nation’s leading AI city must be included as national policy tasks," adding, "Gwangju will take the lead in opening a new era of growth for Korea together with the Lee Jaemyung administration."
