The signed cooperation document includes: an analysis of the environment surrounding intellectual property in Qatar, such as related laws, systems, and institutions; the establishment of a national intellectual property strategy, including goals for the creation, utilization, and protection of intellectual property; and capacity-building initiatives such as the operation of customized training programs.
In particular, the agreement includes the dispatch of experts and consulting by specialized institutions for the establishment of a national intellectual property strategy, thereby laying the groundwork for future cooperation between the two countries in the field of intellectual property.
Previously, Qatar has been accelerating its transition to a knowledge-based economy based on the "Qatar National Vision 2030" in an effort to move away from its traditional oil-dependent economic structure. To support this transition, Qatar has selected Korea as a partner for cooperation in the field of intellectual property.
Commissioner Kim and Deputy Minister Al Maki agreed to mutually cooperate on follow-up measures for establishing Qatar's national intellectual property strategy based on the Strategic Partnership Program.
Kim Wanki, Commissioner of the Korean Intellectual Property Office, stated, "We will continue to expand the scope of cooperation between the two countries based on our strategic partnership in the field of intellectual property," adding, "The Korean Intellectual Property Office will continue to promote the global spread of K-IP and work to establish a favorable intellectual property environment for domestic export companies."
