Sungjoo Park, Director of the National Investigation Headquarters at the National Police Agency, stated on July 7, "There is already a certain level of consensus on the separation of investigation and prosecution," and added, "We will review how to improve and supplement the police investigation system from the public's perspective."
At a regular press briefing that day, Director Park said, "The main direction is checks and balances," and emphasized, "The most important purpose of an investigation is to uncover the substantive truth. We are examining whether there have been any shortcomings in guaranteeing human rights during this process."
Regarding organizational restructuring, Director Park said, "There is nothing to disclose at this stage," but added, "We are establishing special measures to address the current issues of phishing and drug-related crimes."
Concerning the SKT hacking case, Director Park stated, "We are continuing the investigation after receiving materials from foreign investigative agencies and companies."
Regarding the investigation into Lee Junseok, a member of the Reform Party, who made sexually inappropriate remarks during a televised presidential debate, Director Park said, "We have completed most of the complainant interviews," and added, "We plan to proceed with the investigation according to future procedures."
