The special prosecutor team led by Min Jungki, which is investigating allegations related to Kim Keonhee, summoned Lee Eunggeun, former CEO of Sambu Construction and one of the key figures in the Sambu Construction stock manipulation case, on July 4.
Lee is suspected of misleading investors in May and June 2023 by making it appear that Sambu Construction would actively pursue reconstruction projects in Ukraine, artificially inflating the company's stock price, and then selling his shares to gain hundreds of billions of won in illicit profits.
At the time, Lee was reportedly in charge of overseeing Sambu Construction's business, including signing memorandums of understanding (MOUs) with overseas companies related to the Ukraine reconstruction project.
During the investigation on this day, the special prosecutor's team is said to have focused on questioning Lee about the specific circumstances behind the sharp fluctuations in Sambu Construction's stock price and whether former President Yoon Sukyeol and his wife were involved.
Just one day after officially launching the investigation, the special prosecutor's team conducted searches and seizures at a total of 13 locations, including six companies?Sambu Construction, DYD (the largest shareholder of Sambu Construction at the time), Iseok Industrial Development (which sold Sambu Construction shares to DYD), and others?as well as the residences of seven related suspects.
Won Heeryong, former Minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, is also under investigation in connection with the Sambu Construction case. Won attended the Ukraine Reconstruction Forum held in Poland in May 2023, and Sambu Construction's stock price surged by about five times within two months. It is currently reported that Won is banned from leaving the country.
