Moon Sungjun Emphasizes Systematic Measures and Cooperative Response
to Minimize Heatwave Damage
On July 3, Yeongdeok County in North Gyeongsang Province held a meeting to review heatwave response measures, presided over by Deputy County Governor Moon Sungjun, in order to strengthen its readiness and minimize loss of life and property due to summer heatwaves.
During the meeting, Deputy Governor Moon instructed the heads of departments and township leaders to establish tailored heatwave countermeasures for each sector and group, including vulnerable populations and those working in agriculture and fisheries, in response to the earlier-than-usual issuance of heatwave advisories compared to last year.
He also ordered the implementation of protective measures for wildfire victims from the North Gyeongsang wildfire that occurred at the end of March, including regular inspections of air conditioners and refrigerators installed in temporary housing to ensure they are functioning properly during the hot weather. Additionally, he directed that swift response plans be developed for villages where senior centers were completely destroyed by the wildfire.
Deputy Governor Moon Sungjun stated, "This year, scorching heat and tropical nights have arrived earlier than usual, making the safety and health of our residents the county government's top priority." He added, "We must establish systematic measures and build a close cooperation system with relevant agencies to prevent any loss of life or property from this summer's heatwave, and respond thoroughly to prevent any incidents in advance."
