Commemorative Ceremony for "Social Economy Week"

On the afternoon of July 4, at 2:00 p.m., Gyeongbuk Province will hold the "2025 Gyeongsangbuk-do Social Economy Week Commemorative Ceremony" at the provincial government building. The event, themed "Towards a New Republic of Korea with the Gyeongbuk-Style Social Economy," will be attended by over 100 participants, including city and county officials, executives and staff from social economy enterprises, and representatives from related organizations.
This event is organized to mark Social Enterprise Day (July 1) and Cooperative Day (the first Saturday of July). It aims to raise public awareness about the meaning and value of the social economy, and to foster communication and unity among practitioners and stakeholders. The program includes a commemorative ceremony, exhibition and experience booths, events, and live commerce, among other diverse activities.
The pre-ceremony will open with a performance by the vocal ensemble La Classe, followed by the main ceremony, during which Kim Kyungran, CEO of Mungyeong Miso Co., Ltd., will present "Outstanding Cases of Social Economy in Gyeongbuk Province."
Mungyeong Miso Co., Ltd. is a social enterprise that produces processed foods such as omija syrup, beverages, and omija seaweed. The company exports its products to various countries, including Hong Kong and the United States, demonstrating the competitiveness of Gyeongbuk's agricultural specialties.
Next, Ko Jinseok, President of the Korea Social Enterprise Central Council, will deliver a special lecture titled "Strategies for Revitalizing Social Enterprise Policy in Korea." He will discuss the trends in laws and systems related to social enterprises, as well as the policy direction for the coming year, and will engage in dialogue with attendees. In addition, it is expected that social economy practitioners from Gyeongbuk attending the event will present a variety of opinions on-site.
Furthermore, participants will have the opportunity to experience the social economy firsthand by viewing an exhibition of 28 outstanding products from social economy enterprises in the Gyeongbuk region, planting companion plants, and making personal blended fabric perfumes. As part of the ESG in Daily Life event, free coffee will be provided to those who bring reusable containers.
On this day, Yang Geumhee, Deputy Governor for Economy of Gyeongbuk Province, will participate in the "Gyeongsangbuk-do Social Economy Outstanding Products Special Sales Event," where three items, including Cheongdo peaches, will be sold at a discount of over 30% through Korea Post and Naver Shopping live broadcasts. A portion of the sales proceeds will be donated to residents affected by wildfires in five regions.
In addition, to commemorate Social Economy Week, Gyeongsangbuk-do is offering a 15% discount on 52 outstanding social economy products through the Korea Post online shopping mall. The sales period runs from June 26 to July 18, and may end early if coupons are sold out.
Yang Geumhee, Deputy Governor for Economy of Gyeongbuk Province, stated, "I hope this event will boost the morale of social economy practitioners and serve as an opportunity to further unite efforts toward realizing social value in harmony with the local community." She added, "Gyeongbuk Province will continue to focus on discovering and fostering new policies for the development of the social economy."
