Gyeonggi Province and Paju-si to Address Bottleneck and Improve Traffic Flow
Enhanced Accessibility to Seonyu Industrial Complex and Improved Regional Logistics Expected
Gyeonggi Province announced on July 4 that the traffic improvement project for the Seonyu section of Local Route 78 in Paju-si has completed the compensation process and is now officially commencing construction.
This project, designated as a national support local road section, is being promoted as a non-government-managed project by Paju-si to address chronic bottlenecks caused by increased commuter traffic and a narrow road structure, particularly around the rapidly growing Paju Seonyu General Industrial Complex. The project is progressing smoothly, with a target completion date set for December 2026.
Severe congestion repeatedly occurs during rush hours in the bottleneck section where the road narrows from four lanes to two. As a result, local residents and workers at nearby industrial complexes experience daily traffic inconveniences, and ongoing complaints have been filed regarding this section.
The project to alleviate congestion in the Seonyu section of Paju-si is currently in the final stages of negotiations for land and property compensation, as well as the relocation of utility poles and other obstructions, including Korea Electric Power Corporation poles. Preparatory work for construction is underway.
Once the road improvement is completed, the traffic flow in the Seonyu section of Local Route 78 is expected to be dramatically improved. In addition to reducing commuting times, the upgraded infrastructure will accommodate the rapidly increasing traffic volume. It is also anticipated to enhance residential conditions and improve accessibility to industrial complexes, thereby contributing to a better living environment.
Kim Youngseop, Director of Road Policy at Gyeonggi Province, stated, "The project to improve the chronic congestion section of Local Route 78 (Seonyu section) will serve as an important opportunity to enhance not only road capacity but also the overall quality of the local industrial and residential environment. Gyeonggi Province will work closely with Paju-si to ensure the project is carried out swiftly and effectively."
