Medical School Professors' Association Issues Statement
"Deeply Empathize with President Lee's Remarks"
On July 3, medical school professors nationwide welcomed President Lee Jaemyung's expression of determination to resolve the current medical crisis during a press conference marking one month since his inauguration. They stated that they would do their utmost to prepare for the return of medical students and residents.
The National Association of Medical School Professors (NAMSP) issued a statement that day, saying, "We deeply empathize with President Lee's remarks that the current situation can be resolved through restoring trust, dialogue, and compromise."
They also pledged, "As medical school professors responsible for the education of students and the training of residents, we will do our best to restore the systems of schools and hospitals so that students can return to their studies and residents can be re-employed at training hospitals."
NAMSP urged, "We ask the government not only to prepare all the necessary conditions for their return, but also to reestablish medical policy governance based on pragmatic principles and to undertake reforms of the irrational and unfair medical system."
NAMSP added, "Since prompt dialogue and discussion are needed, we hope the Ministry of Education's vice minister for practical affairs will be appointed as soon as possible. We also hope that the new government, medical students, residents, and the entire medical community will work together to fulfill their roles as protectors of public health and life."
